Since 1993, Doody Enterprises has been the most trusted source of timely, targeted healthcare information for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and medical librarians. In fact, each year more than one million healthcare and health information professionals worldwide use Doody’s Review ServiceTM or Doody’s Core TitlesTM to efficiently and effectively determine which titles in their specific fields are most worthy of their time and attention.
Doody’s Review ServiceTM collects information on approximately 3,000 book and software titles each year from over 200 of the world’s leading publishers of professional-level healthcare titles in 140 specialties in clinical medicine, the basic sciences, nursing, and allied health, and commissions expert reviews of 2,000 of them. For each specialty, an Editorial Review Group Chair (ERG Chair) coordinates reviews of titles in his/her field. The Chairs work with over 7,500 academically-affiliated clinicians who use a formatted review to critically evaluate each title and complete a ratings questionnaire that generates Doody’s Star RatingsTM.
Doody’s Core Titles™, an essential collection development tool for health sciences libraries that debuted in 2004, takes an innovative approach to creating a list of must-have titles in each healthcare specialty. Using an online publication system, the collective judgments of over 200 healthcare professionals and medical librarians are distilled into a comprehensive list of core titles in 121 specialties. After titles are selected by the content specialists and librarians, they are scored by the librarians, who also make Essential Purchase recommendations. The result is Doody’s Core Titles — and the process is repeated each year.

But reviewing books for healthcare professionals and medical librarians was just the first step in Doody Enterprises’s mission to help eliminate medical information overload. In 1995, we launched MedInfoNow – a customizable literature update service that helps medical professionals save time and stay up to date by delivering to them each week specialty-specific journal article citations and abstracts from Medline®, the premier index of biomedical literature, in addition to news and reviews of books in their selected areas. A distinguished group of active users of the service, representing many of the societies which license the MedInfoNow service for their members, serves as the Editorial Advisory Board, meeting annually to offer their input on how the service can be improved and made more useful and valuable to busy, time-challenged healthcare professionals.
